American Express is probably the worst payments provider. They have blocked my card since they could verify me (without warning me via email, letter or sms). They say they did, but I received nothing. They cannot read scanned IDs, which was perfectly readible for ING, ABN AMRO and other institutions.1.9/5(1.7K)
Aug 19, 2010 · I agree- American Express sucks! I have a merchant account with a different company and was charged by AMEX because my account was dormant. The rep told me that they charge so that we, merchants, would "remember that they are there". I told her that it's not my fault that my customers don't choose to pay with AMEX.

In the Travel Agency category. I have been a platinum card holder for many years. For what? Customer service? Definitely not. Frustration and time waster. Terrible customer service. I applied a credit card which took 2 months to arrive at my doorstep. I need to pay from the day my application is approved, and I have been told the only way to avoid the charges is to cancel my card, which I happily did. Shame on you Amex. They said the best they can do is resend it for reconsideration and to wait until their website is back up running and their techs are aware of their situation on the website , but no specific date on when it will be running back up properly. I have been trying to reach American Express Customer service a couple of times to have my card unblocked after going through the identification process 3 weeks ago. However I have now been in the waiting line several times for more than 45 minutes several time without any response. I have gone from wanting to unblock my card to cancel my card. Used to be a great company, the sign-up process was excellent - We had 3 business gold cards since and never had any issues at all.
